Redcedar Run Trail

Length: 0.11 miles  |  Elevation Gain: 6.3 feet  |

The Peavy Arboretum Trail area includes many short trails that are ideal for the casual stroll or a family learning opportunity. The Arboretum has ample parking, several benches and picnic tables, and plant identification markers. A map of Peavy Arboretum and species identification information can be found at: http://cf.forestry.oregonstate.edu/peavy-arboretum. Groups interested in obtaining a guided tour of the Arboretum should contact OSU College Forests staff.

A hiker-only trail just over one tenth of a mile long with little to no elevation gain, Redcedar Run Trail is home to a row of majestic western redcedars. Located at the entrance to Peavy Arboretum, Redcedar Run Trail offers a glimpse of several different coniferous tree species. This trail is unique in that it is the only place in the Arboretum to find western hemlocks and larches. Also located along Redcedar Run Trail are a variety of fruiting broadleaved trees and shrubs. Red elderberry, Indian-plum, and cherry, all of which flower in the spring and provide nectar for hummingbirds, are just a few of the species found here. Interpretive information on cherry trees and tree identification posts with common and scientific names are also located along this trail. Whether a bleak winter morning or a sunny summer afternoon, Redcedar Run Trail offers a glimpse of nature's beauty.
