This trail passes through a two plus mile section of the historic Cardwell Hill Road which was used to supply Fort Hoskins in the 1850s and 60s. Fort Hoskins Historic Park is located about seven miles Northwest of Fitton Green. The Cardwell Hill Road Trail is gated at both the east and west sides of Fitton Green with trailheads and small parking areas provided at both locations. This trail offers beautiful view of mixed over- story forests and overlooks the Mary's River watershed. The west side access, or Wren access as it is referred to locally, offers wonderful late summer blackberry picking opportunities. The trail follows the public right of way through private lands until it reaches the 308 acre Fitton Green Natural Area, so please respect our neighbors by not trespassing upon their lands along the route. The Cardwell Hill Road Trail intersects with the northern terminus of the Fitton Green North-South trail.
