Beautiful waterfalls characterize the Alsea Falls Recreation area. Visitors can hike or mountain bike on many miles of trails through second growth forests. The site also features a picnic area and campground (fees apply).
Providing some respite after the Side Winder or Buckhorn climb, the Big Fir Trail follows a gently sloping old logging road through mature Douglas Fir forest. The Side Winder-Big Fir-Buck Horn-South Fork Mile loop is a good hike option from either the recreation area or campground trailheads.
